Selection Process : Military Mentor Contact
The Department of Defense annually solicits nominations for outstanding military officers to serve as military mentors during the Washington Week of the U.S. Senate Youth Program.
Participation in this prestigious program provides military officers the opportunity to exercise their leadership skills while mentoring our nation’s next generation of elected and appointed public servants. Each year, 17-20 officers are chosen through a competitive nomination package and candidate review process. The Office of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs generally distributes nomination instructions in September, with the selection announcement in December.
Military mentor participation in the U.S. Senate Youth Program is on a voluntary basis and at no additional cost to the government. Military mentors must be in a leave or permissive temporary duty status during the program. Meals and lodging accommodations will be provided by the United States Senate Youth Program.
